Anyway that’s all the translations I got, I’ll see if I can get translations for the remaining three story tracks of BB “persuading” Kaz to join his group. I can say this much though:

- There are spear fishing, fieldstrip, eating and speed shooting contests, needless to say BB bests Kaz at all of them. With ease. Finding all of that more amusing than anything.

- During the eating contest (they’re eating the raw fish they caught earlier) BB cheats by using his survival menu. YES, you can hear him opening his survival viewer and eating the fish THERE. REALLY FAST. What a magnificent bastard.

- During the speed shooting contest Kaz tries to turn BB’s men against him and fails horribly. BB laughs at and humiliates him while he is being subdued.

- In a last desperate attempt Kaz tries to escape, BB goes after him. They engage in battle, Kaz with a machete, but he has no chance against BB who just CQCs him and traps him in a chokehold, forcing him to submit and to choose between joining him and, well, death.

- Big Boss is a really nice guy you guys.

i still REALLY want to know the exact context for this. obviously he doesnt kill chico since he appears later when they, uh, get that bomb out of paz. but what could his reason for strangling him be?…

yeah i actually agree! i can see him lashing out at people his size but children are something else altogether…. maybe whatever it is that chico did was really fucking bad? bad enough for him to not even care or simply FORGET. theres also this thing— how in PW bb says that chico is now a new MAN and in the first trailer skullface tells chico “youre a man now, no more wargames.”

….so maybe bb simply treats him like he would treat a MAN? if we take into consideration that chico was so distressed about his age in pw and how nobody took him serious, and bbs response was to, well, take him serious and pull a gun on him….

doesnt make it any better, of course, but this is something i can definitely see. aside from that, what weve gotten so far from the trailers… ive felt no real concern for either chico or paz from bb/kaz. in the case of paz, bb immediately mentions killing, and kaz makes it clear that they need her on their side, not because they care, but because she has connections to cipher. and the bomb removal scene seemed really… bb just holds her down (while chico is visibly distressed) and when he’s handed the bomb, he stops caring about her altogether.

I REALLY WISH WE HAD MORE TO WORK WITH AUGH

I have 2 theories:

1) We know Chico has already told about his compas in PW, he is weak when it comes to torture, he is a kid after all. Skull Face say that he did a good job, i believe Chico has leaked vital info about Mother Base, which eventually led to the destruction. Big Boss was pissed about the lack of honor from Chico.

2) We all know how Chico is about Paz. When Big Boss found Chico, he was desperate to rescue his ‘love’ Paz, jeopardizing Big Boss’s mission. This struggle was just a form of make Chico pass out in order to continue the Mission of rescue Paz

oh man either of these could be the case, too. still i cant get over the fact he’s strangling a kid! somehow i have a hunch that this scene is going to be vital/meaningful in some way, at least relating to bbs character development

also re: theory a, this would actually be wonderfully ironic, given he tells chico in pw “oh well, pain gets the better of all of us” when it comes to having sold out his compas, basically saying its not as big a deal as hes making it. but then when it comes to bbs own comrades? OH SHIT YOU DIDNT. i think those two scenes, the one from pw and the one in mgsv, will be heavily contrasted and there will be parallels.

This last bit is actually what I am expecting. As someone mentioned before, this seems really out of character for BB considering that this is supposed to be not too long after PW and the whole ‘don’t sweat it kid torture is tough’ deal. However, although the strangling is definitely an aggressive and quite seriously intended action, in the trailer I don’t see it as being an overly angry one. It’s more of the terrifyingly composed I-could-kill-you-without-batting-an-eyelash Big Boss that reminds you that this isn’t just the leader of MSF, this is a cold-skinned soldier who lives for battle and deals away with lives like a rich man with money.

The way I read it, BB isn’t planning on killing Chico since, as we’ve already noted, he’s not dead later (not to mention there’s hardly a chance in hell you will survive if BB wants you dead), but moreso trying to send a message to Chico, reminding him that he’s part of his army now, that he is one of his soldiers, and that he gave him his life. He belongs to him now. BB gave Chico a new life, and Chico owes it to BB.

It’s quite clear from PW that Kaz and BB really don’t give a damn about the Sandinistas revolución, other than the fact that they could gain some allies by helping them out and taking advantage of the movement to get what they want. Chico breaking and talking really wasn’t their problem and it actually didn’t matter at all.

But now, hoho. Chico, now you’re a man. And you are one of BB’s men. You do not get off the hook that easily. You’re going to be getting one hell of a reality check now. And it’s going to chill you through to the bone, and it’s going to be step one in realizing that this is not the same man who rescued you before. The fact that both scenes consist of BB rescuing Chico is just a perfect time for Kojima to compare and contrast how BB has changed in such a sort time.

Chico would have to be, what, 22 in MGSV. That boy in MGSV looks 12-15. Snake has accelerated ageing, could it be possible when he was younger he looks a few years older than he really was?

Mmmm, I’m not ready to hop aboard the Solid Snake train just yet. Yes, Chico would be around that age in The Phantom Pain. However, I think that this is before the nine-year coma/prosthetic arm charade, because we saw this character in the original Ground Zeroes trailer being held captive in a camp that Snake was told to infiltrate to save Chico and Paz.

But you do raise an interesting point about the accelerated ageing. I actually can’t help but keep thinking of Solidus — he was created after Liquid and Solid, yet he looked by far the oldest in Sons of Liberty. Is he going to be kicking around yet? How old does he look? We’ve all been crying “LIQUID” and “SOLID” at the new trailers, but man what I wouldn’t give for some Solidus backstory, especially since we’ve seen footage of child soldiers, and previous games associating that with the whole Solidus/Raiden conundrum, as well as the fact that we know Cipher/The Patriots chose Solidus to be US President George Sears and that couldn’t have just been a name-in-a-hat sort of decision.

for those not in the know, night witches were russian lady bombers who bombed the shit out of german lines in WW2. Thing is though, they had the oldest, noisiest, crappest planes in the entire world. The engines used to conk out halfway through their missions, so they had to climb out on the wings mid flight to restart the props. the planes were also so noisy that to stop germans from hearing them combing and starting up their anti aircraft guns, they’d climb up to a certain height, coast down to german positions, drop their bombs, restart their engines in midair, and get the fuck out of dodge.
